Here are the Steelers' picks so far through the first three rounds of the draft: 1. T.J. Watt, OLB, Wisconsin; 2. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC; 3. Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee; 4. James Conner, RB, Pitt.

Steelers make clear James Conner is not a sentimental pick. "The tape told me what he was," RBs coach James Saxon said. "He runs the football downhill, he can bend, he can catch the football, he's tough, he's smart, he's a guy who can come here and work every day."

Steelers pick hometown cancer survivor Conner

The Steelers drafted James Conner in the third round Friday after he spent six months undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma before playing his last college season.

ESPN Stats and Information

Former All-American and ACC Player of the Year James Conner left Pitt as one of the conference's most decorated, with the most rushing touchdowns (52) in conference history. Only Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett had more career rushing yards at Pitt than Conner's 3,733.

Steelers keep RB James Conner at home

Conner is staying in Pittsburgh, as the former Panthers running back who battled cancer, was chosen by the hometown Steelers in the third round.

Pitt running back James Conner to Steelers, 105th overall. Great story. Cancer survivor stays home. And Le'Veon Bell gets a bruiser to back him up.

ESPN Stats and Information

Even though he played only seven games due to injury in 2016, Cam Sutton still left Tennessee as the program's all-time leader in passes defended, breaking up 30 passes and picking off seven in 45 starts over four seasons.

Third-round pick Cam Sutton is a cover corner. The Steelers want to play more man coverage in 2017, according to defensive backs coach Carnell Lake. "It's apparent to improve our defense," he said.

Steelers got their corner at No. 94 overall: Tennessee's Cameron Sutton. At 5-foot-11, Sutton will likely be a candidate to play the slot, but he has experience on the outside as a press corner, too. Sutton started every game before his senior year, when he missed half the year with a fractured ankle. Can return punts. A potential replacement for Will Gay down the road.

Tomlin to WRs after draft pick: 'Play nice boys'

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin tweeted at Sammie Coates and Martavis Bryant to "play nice" after the two wideouts exchanged some friendly fire over incoming rookie receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Jeremy Fowler ESPN Staff Writer

With Cal QB Davis Webb off the board, the Steelers could use one of their two late-third-round picks on a quarterback before most of them are gone. They very well might eschew one entirely, but Tennessee's Josh Dobbs and Pitt's Nate Peterman are available. The team met with both players during the pre-draft process.

ESPN Stats and Information

JuJu Smith-Schuster's 213 career receptions and 3,092 career receiving yards are both second-best among Power 5 players since 2014. His 12 career 100-yard receiving games are also the Pac-12's most over that span.

Steelers add another weapon in JuJu Smith-Schuster

The newest target for Ben Roethlisberger can make big catches look routine, but Mel Kiper Jr. wonders whether the USC receiver will be able to create separation at the next level.

Jeremy Fowler ESPN Staff Writer

The Steelers add to an already loaded offense with USC wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster with the 62nd overall pick. The Steelers wanted to add a playmaker in the first few rounds, knowing Martavis Bryant has work to do to return from suspension. The Steelers like Smith-Schuster'a all-around game - he's big (6-foot-2) and plays tough, fast enough. Not a consistent wow playmaker like Bryant and Antonio Brown but very solid pick.

Jeremy Fowler ESPN Staff Writer

Five picks before Steelers on clock. They can go with defensive back help (Jourdan Lewis, Josh Jones), interior line (Chris Wormley) or offense for Big Ben (JuJu Smith-Schuster, Alvin Kamara). I'm expecting the Steelers to add an offensive playmaker somewhere in the first four rounds.

Jeremy Fowler ESPN Staff Writer

Eight of the first 46 picks in the NFL draft are cornerbacks. The Steelers believe this is a deep corner draft, and that theory will be tested with the team's three picks on Day 2. The Steelers have taken two defensive backs in each of the last two drafts.

New Steelers T.J. Watt with an impassioned opening message: 'We're here to win the Super Bowl. I feel I can help this team win games.'
