NBA awards preview: Spurs

As usual, San Antonio has finalists in several categories, including Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and MVP.

Michael C. Wright ESPN Staff Writer

The NBA announced Monday that Kawhi Leonard has been named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team for the third consecutive season, and Danny Green was selected to the NBA's All-Defensive Second Team. The only Spur to ever win multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards, Leonard is the first San Antonio player to be named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in three straight seasons since Bruce Bowen earned five straight selections.

NBA draft grades: Spurs earn solid marks

The Spurs have a way of finding sleepers in the late first round, and they may have done it again this year with Derrick White at No. 29.

Michael C. Wright ESPN Staff Writer

Here's Spurs general manager R.C. Buford on the team possibly shopping LaMarcus Aldridge for a trade before the draft: "The thing I'd say is we've got a team that's won 128 games [since Aldridge's arrival], were in the conference finals. We're happy with the group we have. If we can make it better, we'll do it at any opportunity we can. But it's more than just players. It's the fit for our group, and our goals for this team are to continue to compete for championships, and LaMarcus helps us do that. So, that's where we sit with LaMarcus."

Phoenix might be the only team holding a top-10 pick that could acquire Aldridge with confidence that it isn't just a one-year engagement.

Any team trading for LaMarcus Aldridge has to know it can re-sign him. Which surely hampers San Antonio's efforts to acquire a top-10 pick
