Mike D'Antoni: "We closed the gap [on the Warriors] only because I feel that we're better this year last year. Now, we'll see if they're better. They might be better, so maybe it's an illusion. That's the reason we can say that. We just feel like we're a better team this year. Now, we've got a ways to go. This is not going to be the same team it is in May. It shouldn't be. If it is, we're in trouble."

McHale doubles down on criticism of Harden

Kevin McHale said Friday that James Harden calling him a "clown" doesn't change his opinion of the Rockets star's leadership skills. "Calling me names is not going to change my opinion as to what I saw when I was there," the ex-Houston coach said.

The Rockets announced that they have waived Isaiah Taylor, Chris Johnson, Tim Quarterman and George dePaula. The $1.3M contract of Taylor would have been guaranteed if not waived by October 15. Houston will incur a $25K cap hit for the Chris Johnson waiver.
